Liverpool are reportedly to offer Mohamed Salah a new £185,000-a-week new contract – and fans have claimed on Twitter that is not enough.
The Sun claim the Merseyside giants are ready to open talks with Salah, 25, to end any questions over his future following his sensational exploits that have put the team on the cusp of the Champions League final.
It is said that Liverpool’s American owners Fenway Sports Group are keen to tie down the goal machine, who has scored 43 goals in all competitions this season, including two in Tuesday’s semi-final first leg against Roma, a match in which he also supplied two assists.
The Sun report that Salah is also in line for a contract extension that will run beyond the summer of 2022, when his current deal is due to expire.
Salah has massively exceeded all expectations since joining from Roma last summer for an initial fee of around £35million.
He is not only the leading Premier League scorer, but the top marksman across Europe’s major leagues, and has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Salah is a huge fans favourite and the Anfield faithful are keen to avoid a repeat of the situation in which Philippe Coutinho engineered a £140million-plus January transfer to Barcelona.
Supporters believe the club should up the £185,000-a-week deal, worth the equivalent of £9.6million-a-year, to £300,000-a-week.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
In today’s market he’s worth far more than £185k a week, on current form probably closer to £300k
