Portugal fans have annihilated Rangers defender Bruno Alves for his performance in the international friendly win over Egypt in Zurich on Friday night.

It took two stoppage time goals from Cristiano Ronaldo to earn a 2-1 win for the reigning European champions, who had gone behind in the 56th minute when Mohamed Salah scored.

Both nations are preparing for the 2018 World Cup and one surprise inclusion in the Portugal starting line-up was Alves, who has been well out of form at Rangers this season.

The 36-year-old Gers senior player lasted all 90 minutes despite being booked and that has led to Portugal fans believing that they are facing a defensive crisis going into group stage games against Spain, Morocco and Iran.

One supporter of the Euro 2016 winners claimed that Alves was "completely useless" against Salah and co.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Alves joined Rangers from Cagliari in the summer and has made 21 appearances in all competitions since.

He is perhaps only getting into Graeme Murty's current first-team plans due to a defensive injury crisis at Ibrox which has seen Ross McCrorie, Russell Martin and David Bates all sidelined.

The 95-times Portugal international will enter the final year of his Ibrox deal in the summer.
