Filip Helander tipped to sign for Aston Villa after update -'it's a done deal'
Filip Helander will sign for Aston Villa this summer thanks to Steven Gerrard.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s future.
A Villa source told Football Insider last week (19 April) Gerrard is a big admirer of Helander, 29, and keeping tabs on him ahead of the summer.
As detailed by this site (18 April), Villa are in the market for a new left-sided centre-back.
Gerrard signed Helander for Rangers in the summer of 2019 and Kenny claims this relationship will be crucial to getting a deal done.
“Gerrard knows him, if he thinks he can do the job at Villa then it’s a done deal,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Unless one of those top, top clubs are going to be in for him, which you would think they won’t be, then he can join Villa.
“He knows the manager and that’s the key thing. Gerrard must think that he can do a job in the Premier League.
“Helander presumably trusts Gerrard and Villa is a massive club so why wouldn’t you want to go there.
“There is a question over the different between Scottish football and the Premier League.
“But, as I say, Gerrard clearly thinks he can do a job if he’s intererested.”
Helander has played 60 times for Rangers since joining in 2019.
He has come back from two serious injuries while at Ibrox but is out for the season with a foot problem.
