Rangers defender Fabio Cardoso showed absolutely no signs that he is able to be a successful player at Ibrox in the long-term with a nightmare of a performance in the 3-2 defeat to Celtic at Ibrox on Sunday.

Cardoso, 23, was thrown into the melting pot in the 15th minute when David Bates was forced off with a nasty-looking ankle injury.

Graeme Murty has constantly overlooked the Portuguese centre-back since taking over the Ibrox hotseat, and it was clear to see why when the ex-Vitoria man failed to do the most simple of tasks.

If Moussa Dembele had not have scored just before half-time when he completely got the better of Cardoso, Rangers could have gone on to win that game as a 2-1 lead at the break would have been massive.

Cardoso was signed for £1.3million from Vitoria by Pedro Caixinha in the summer, but when this season ends, there should be no second season for the centre-back and he should be binned by Mark Allen to gather the funds to continue building up the squad in the new direction it has taken.

The former Portugal youth international is clearly not in Murty's plans with him not making a single Scottish Premiership start since Caixinha was sacked.

It's likely that Murty will get the manager's job for next season, so getting rid of outcasts like Cardoso would be a good start to begin planning for the 2018/19 campaign.
