Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Jamie Carragher is "spot on" and has urged Liverpool to spend "£200million" on new midfielders in this window.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, savaged Thiago Alcantara, 31, by claiming "he looks like he belongs in Masters Football" after his recent displays.

Liverpool slumped to a fifth Premier League loss of the season on Monday (2 January) - with Brentford emerging 3-1 victors after outplaying Jurgen Klopp's side.

Speaking after the defeat on Sky Sports, former Reds defender Carragher claimed his old side need to spend "£200million" on three midfield players in order to re-enter the top four race.

Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are out of contract at the end of the season and can now discuss pre-contract agreements with foreign sides.

When asked if Liverpool's transfer funds need to be directed at the midfield area, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “100%.

“I’m watching Thiago against Brentford, it looks like he belongs in Masters Football.

“He was strolling around. Being good on the ball isn’t enough – you will get ran over in this league.

“Henderson can still do it on occasions, but he’s been poor in recent games.

“Fabinho can’t really run. Keita, Chamberlain, Elliott – they’re good players, but just look at some of the other teams.

Liverpool

“They need Bellingham. They need two top midfielders who can stretch the game and play box-to-box.

“Carragher is spot on – they need to spend £200m on that midfield now.”
