Luton Town have agreed the terms of a three-year contract with Nathan Jones, Football Insider can reveal.

The Championship strugglers are on the verge of reappointing the 46-year-old just 18 months after his departure, as first revealed by this site yesterday.

A Luton source has told Football Insider that Jones has accepted a three-year offer from the club and is putting the finishing touches to the deal today.

He is then set to be unveiled as manager of the Hatters for a second time.

Jones will replace his namesake Graeme Jones, who left by mutual consent at the end of April.

Jones is heading back to Kenilworth Road after establishing his managerial reputation with a memorable first spell in charge.

Appointed in January 2016, he led Luton from the lower half of League Two to the cusp of promotion to the Championship.

He steered the club to the League Two play-off semi-finals in his first full season and then automatic promotion as division runners-up in the next campaign.

Luton were second in League One and on a 13-game unbeaten run when he was tempted away by Stoke City, with club legend Mick Harford finishing the job Jones started by guiding them into the Championship.

But his spell at the bet365 Stadium was not a success and he was sacked last November and replaced by Michael O'Neill.

The Hatters parted ways with Graeme Jones "by mutual agreement" last month, stating that the decision was in order to reduce the club's "cost base".

Harford had taken charge in the interim but has now moved to bring in a man with impeccable Hatters credentials.

In other Luton Town news, the club's rivals are said to be putting other clubs "in their place" during lockdown.
