Arsenal may have to put their search for a striker on hold after the club recorded losses of £52million in the 2022-23 season, sources have told Football Insider.

The Gunners announced their 2022-23 accounts on Tuesday (27 February) revealing an overall revenue increase to £467million.

However, the North London side still suffered an overall loss of more than £52million - adding to the £45million loss in 2021-22.

Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules state that top-flight clubs are allowed to lose a maximum of £105million over a three-year period.

As a result, Arsenal may have to closely monitor their spending in the next year including the upcoming summer transfer window.

Arsenal striker deal suffers blow after £52m news emerges

Mikel Arteta is eager to add a striker to his squad this summer to add competition and depth for Gabriel Jesus.

They have been heavily linked with moves for Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Brighton’s Evan Ferguson among other striker targets.

As revealed by Football Insider, Arsenal are keeping tabs on Ferguson ahead of the summer window with talent spotters regarding him as a ‘huge talent’.

Brighton

However, both Brighton and Brentford are likely to demand huge fees for their star strikers this summer and Arsenal may be in a position where they have to raise funds through sales.

The Gunners spent over £200million on new signings over the 2023-24 season, including a £105million deal for West Ham’s Declan Rice.
