Celtic have agreed a £2.8million fee with Russia club FC Krasnodar for the transfer of midfield enforcer Kouassi Eboue, according to a reliable journalist.

Scottish Sun correspondent Robert Grieve has claimed that the runaway Scottish leaders are closing in on the signing of the teenage Ivorian.

Grieve reported on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday evening that Celtic have agreed the cost of the midfield anchorman, who only turned 19 last month.

But he explained that the deal is not yet complete, as "personal terms and work permit [are] still to be finalised".

Eboue is contracted to Krasnodar until 2021 but, despite the hurdles that need to be overcome, Celtic are reportedly close to making Eboue their first signing of the January transfer window.

The teenager, who was born in the Ivory Coast, previously played for Armenian side FC Shirak before making his move to the Russian Premier League in January 2016.

Eboue has shot to prominence in Russia this season and featured in six Europa League group games for FC Krasnodar and 18 matches in all competitions.

He is regarded as a rising star and a future mainstay of the Ivory Coast national team.

Celtic have a 19-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership and have already lifted the Betfred League Cup as they eye a first domestic clean sweep since 2001.

Brendan Rodgers will have money to spend in the January window as the manager aims to build on what has been a hugely impressive first season at the helm.
