Celtic's owners are likely to receive heavy backlash from supporters following an underwhelming transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Glasgow giants were incredibly reserved in terms of spending, and by the time the deadline passed, they only had an outlay of around £13million.

Sources say that fans are furious at the failure to address the problem areas of the Celtic squad.

Brendan Rodgers is also unhappy with the club's business in the transfer market, adding fuel to the rumours that he may be considering a Premier League move.

Celtic haven't replaced key players

Earlier this summer, Celtic sold star winger Nicolas Kuhn to Como in a deal worth around £17million.

The Hoops also allowed Adam Idah to join Swansea City, which was the second striker departure in as many windows, after Kyogo Furuhashi left in January.

Despite the trio of high-profile exits, Celtic have failed to secure the necessary additions, meaning that Idah, Kyogo, and Kuhn have all not been properly replaced.

Now, the Scottish champions are left with a weakened frontline, and winger Daizen Maeda will be forced to play through the middle, which has resulted in fans questioning those at the top of the club.

Celtic ‘likely’ to sign free agent

Meanwhile, Celtic are working to complete the signing of Kelechi Iheanacho on a free transfer, sources have told Football Insider.

Despite the fact that the deadline has passed, the Glasgow giants are still able to complete a deal for the Nigerian international, after he was released by Spanish side Sevilla.

Sources say that the move is likely to happen due to Rodgers’ relationship with Iheanacho, which was formed while the pair were working together at Leicester City.

The striker was far from the first name on Celtic's shortlist, but they have very few options after the transfer window closed on Monday (1 September).
