Chelsea still need to strengthen in the forward positions despite signing two players to fill that void already.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed that Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku will not get Chelsea back into the Champions League.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side  met Jackson’s release clause in order to wrap up his arrival – which was believed to be worth around £34million.

Jackson enjoyed a scintillating run of form in the second half of the 2022-23 campaign after failing a Bournemouth medical during the January window.

The Cherries had reportedly agreed to sign him for £20million – but the move was scrapped amid concerns about a hamstring injury.

Jackson, who has three years left to run on his Villarreal contract, managed 13 goals and five assists in 38 games across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign.

Despite Jackson’s impressive run of form, Agbonlahor still believes Chelsea need another midfield reinforcement.

“They still need a proper striker,” He told Football Insider.

“I liked Romelu Lukaku when he was playing at Everton.

“it is what a lot of teams need right out in the league aswell.

“Victor Osimhen would be good, but I think they are talking around £170m for him, which is too much.

“But I do feel that Chelsea need more as every team is improving.

“Villa will be there next season, so will Brighton so it will be harder for Chelsea to break into the top four, and that’s the minimum for Chelsea with the amount of money they spent.
