Chelsea’s stance over a potential exit for Nicolas Jackson is a “huge red flag” to potential buyers after the Newcastle United latest.

Jackson has been heavily linked with a Stamford Bridge exit this summer after the Blues signed Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.

Newcastle are among several clubs, alongside the likes of Bayern Munich, closely monitoring the 24-year-old forward’s situation following the speculation around Alexander Isak’s future.

Liverpool have seen a £110million bid plus add-ons rejected for Isak, with the latest reports suggesting Eddie Howe’s side have told the striker he will not be leaving St James’ Park.

Football Insider revealed on 11 August Jackson could push for a move to Newcastle if it becomes clear he is no longer in Enzo Maresca’s plans.

The Blues are believed to value the Senegal international at between £80-100million.

Manchester United walked away from signing Jackson after being told his hefty price tag before signing Newcastle target Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

Newcastle know Nicolas Jackson's weaknesses

This article contains exclusive comment from Stefan Borson, a former financial adviser to Man City.

Jackson, who joined Chelsea for £32million from Villarreal in 2023, registered 13 goals and six assists in 37 appearances last season.

Speaking exclusively to Football InsiderBorson said: “Nicolas Jackson is a player that we know.

“We have seen him now for two years in the Premier League. We know all about Nicolas Jackson. Newcastle know all about how good he is or what his weaknesses are.

“The fact that Chelsea want to sell him is a huge red flag. He's absolutely prime in Chelsea's age bracket. They know him inside out and they want to sell him. That should tell you everything you need to know about it.

“In terms of Isak, I'd be saying either right now you're not going, you can go for £150million next summer, or you've got the next few days for them (Liverpool) to put £150million on the table or you're not going.

“I certainly would not be leaving it to the end of the window, and I certainly wouldn't be scrambling around for some replacement that you don't really rate, where you're going to be over a barrel anyway.

“We know that even if it's not Jackson, even if it's somebody else, there's not that many options anyway. But because we know everybody, we know all the strikers, right?

“Arsenal have been looking for a striker, United have been looking for a striker, Liverpool are still looking for a striker now that they've sold Nunez, so they're going to be competing with Newcastle again, whether it's with Isak or the other way around.

“So, it just doesn't work to keep it going.”

Newcastle make Alexander Isak transfer decision

Football Insider revealed on 11 August Newcastle will not allow Isak to leave St James’ Park unless they can bring in his replacement first.

Having missed out on both Seko and Hugo Ekitike already, Howe’s side have been forced to consider alternative options including Jackson.

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider Liverpool’s pursuit of Isak has been delayed after Newcastle failed to sign Sesko.
