Everton are eyeing a January move for Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, according to a report.

The Daily Star claim Ronald Koeman is weighing up whether to attempt to seal a loan deal for the Germany international until the end of the season.

It is said that Koeman is looking to strengthen his midfield with the out-of-favour James McCarthy injured and Gareth Barry set to turn 36 in February.

Schweinsteiger has been an outcast under Jose Mourinho and has not started a match for the Premier League giants this season but made a return to first-team training last week.

The Daily Star claim the 32-year-old earns almost £200,000 a week at United but the club may be willing to subsidise half his wages if a loan can be agreed.

The ex-Bayern Munich star has also been linked with a move to the MLS in America, which is a popular destination for leading players at the end of their careers.
