Exclusive: Pundit adamant Newcastle star man will quit if takeover collapses

Paul Robinson fears that only a takeover at St. James' Park can keep Allan Saint-Maximin at Newcastle United for the foreseeable future.

However, the former England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, does believe that the 23-year-old will be lining up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.

The Daily Mail claim that Jose Mourinho's side are interested in the French winger who signed for the Magpies 12 months ago for £16million.

They report that the Lilywhites are willing to offer Danny Rose, currently on loan at St. James' Park, along with Juan Foyth and cash for the player.

Robinson does not a place in the side for Saint-Maximin in North London despite his "outstanding" first season in the Premier League.

"Spurs do not need him," he told Football Insider.

"There is only so many players that can play on a football pitch and they already have a wealth of talent there.

"Saint-Maximin is having an outstanding season and he is going to attract interest from a lot of places but it all depends on what happens at Newcastle with the takeover.

"If they do get this influx of money and they can match other teams wages and rebuff big transfer offers then I think it will be really, really important for Newcastle to keep hold of him. He has proven to be a top-class player."

Saint-Maximin's 26 appearances this season have yielded four goals and seven assists.

It would likely take a big bid to get him out of Newcastle as the winger still has five years left on his current contract.

In other Newcastle United news, Kevin Phillips has told Football Insider it would be "a travesty" if this happens post-takeover.
