It will cost Tottenham a loan fee between £5-6million to sign Man City midfielder Kalvin Phillips in January, sources have told Football Insider.

As revealed on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King suggests the club can agree a deal for the 28-year-old despite City's demand for a large loan fee.

It is believed that Phillips is on Tottenham's target list as they assess central midfield options in the final weeks of the window.

Man City

Phillips has struggled to settle in at the Etihad Stadium since his £45million move from Leeds United in July 2022.

The England international has made just 31 appearances for City across all competitions during his time in Manchester, scoring one goal.

Phillips has struggled for game time again in the 2023-24 campaign with 10 appearances and just 318 minutes of football played this season.

With the former Leeds star struggling to find his place in Pep Guardiola's team, a move away from City this month looks likely.

But the loan fee demanded by City, who also want all of Phillips' wages paid, makes the deal prohibitive for many interested clubs.

Man City

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, King said: "Personally, if they are looking for a central midfielder, and there has been a lot of talk, I'd be looking at Phillips at Man City.

"I mean £5million or £6million for a loan - I'd certainly be looking at that.

"He has the kind of energy that Ange [Postecoglou] likes."
