Tottenham have terminated the contract of defender Anton Walkes, Football Insider can reveal.

New documents registered with the Football Association show that the centre-back, 20, had his contract cancelled by mutual consent on 15 February.

There has been no announcement from Tottenham about Walkes leaving, and the player still has a profile on the official Spurs website.

But paperwork on the official FA website shows that an agreement was reached for the  youngster to end his lengthy association with Tottenham in the middle of last month.

London-born Walkes has made a single Tottenham senior appearance - against Gillingham in the League Cup last September - and was a regular member of the club's development side before agreeing a loan move to new MLS club Atlanta on 26 January.

The length of the loan for the versatile youngster, who can play at centre-back or defensive midfield, was not announced, as there is the possibility it could run until the end of the MLS season in November.

Walkes has struggled for game time at Atlanta, accumulating just nine minutes from the club's opening five games of their league campaign.

He did not even make the matchday squad for two of those games, although he was an unused substitute for their 2-2 draw against Toronto on Saturday.

Walkes initially made his name as a midfield anchorman but was pushed back into defence with some success for Spurs' development side and is listed as a defender by Atlanta.
