West Brom are poised to sign Karlan Grant from Huddersfield Town in a blockbuster loan-to-buy deal, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

Discussions between the two clubs are at an advanced stage and a fresh breakthrough has given new hope it can be finalised by Friday's 5pm domestic cut-off.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the two clubs are close to agreeing an initial loan for Grant with an obligation to become permanent at the end of the season.

The fee is likely to be around the £14million mark, although it could yet be settled at the £16m point Huddersfield set when discussions began.

This site revealed last month that the two clubs were in talks over a deal for Grant but the Baggies could not meet the asking price in this window.

A compromise is now expected to be agreed by the time the domestic window shuts in three days' time.

Trading is allowed only between Premier League and EFL clubs in the short window that has followed the main international one.

West Brom have made it a priority to bring in a proven goalscorer who can add a cutting edge to their attack.

Grant has not played for Huddersfield since the start of the new season as he looks to secure a move.

He has an impressive record for Huddersfield of 23 goals from 57 matches in all competitions.

That includes four goals from 13 games in the Premier League as well as a further 19 as the Terriers escaped relegation last season.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies have been dealt a blow after four-year contract deal agreed.
