Expert issues Nathan Patterson axe claim amid £15m Everton update
Paul Robinson has insisted there is still "a lot more to come" from Nathan Patterson as Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters is linked with an Everton move.
The former England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Frank Lampard is simply looking for squad depth as a result of Seamus Coleman's advancing years.
According to journalist Alan Nixon (via his Patreon), Everton are chasing Walker-Peters this summer - with a bid of £10-15million mooted.
The Athletic (10 July) claim there has been “no progress” on a new deal for the right-back – who is wanted by Man United and Arsenal.
His current deal expires in June 2025 - and Tottenham reportedly hold the option to re-sign the England international for £30million.
Robinson suggested the interest in Walker-Peters will not affect Patterson's role at Goodison Park.
He also suggested financial constraints could scupper a move for the former Spurs star.
“It just depends whether that deal falls within the financial structure at Everton,” he told Football Insider's Dylan Childs.
“It’s not an easy time for Frank.
“It’s a transfer window like no other. Juggling that financial situation with all the players he wants to bring in, it’s a very steep learning curve for him.
“I think it’s still early on for Patterson. He struggled to get into the team, and then when he did he got injured. There’s a lot more to come from him.
“I just believe with Coleman’s age that Frank is now looking for squad depth. I don’t think you can read too much into Patterson’s future just because they’re after Walker-Peters.”
Patterson played just 45 minutes of football for Everton after signing in January.
He missed the final two months of the season after suffering an ankle injury.
