Moussa Sissoko is the second most likely player to join Liverpool in the remaining weeks of this summer's window, according to a report.

Sky Sports' Football Whispers section claimed on Tuesday night that the 26-year-old is behind only Brazil's Lucas Moura as the most likely summer signing for Jurgen Klopp ahead of the new Premier League season.

Sissoko has made it clear that he does not want to play in the Championship next season but the Magpies have responded by slapping a £35million valuation on the France international in the wake of his impressive displays in the final stages of Euro 2016.

Football Whispers, which gathers all transfer rumours across the globe and calculates the likelihood of them happening, rates it 2.8 out of 5 that Sissoko will join Liverpool, with five the highest possible ranking and meaning it is a certainty.

The Frenchman is level in the ratings with Borussia Mochengladbach central midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud, who has also been strongly linked with the Merseysiders.

Attacking midfielder Sissoko was a mainstay of the Newcastle team last season and was named captain by Rafael Benitez for the final matches of the campaign.

However, he scored just one goal from 39 appearances and 3,402 minutes of action, a poor return for a player with 35 caps for France and one who plays so high up the pitch.

Liverpool have completed three senior deals this summer, with forward Sadio Mane, goalkeeper Lorius Karius and centre-back Joel Matip joining the club's ranks.
