Craig Gordon fears the writing is on the wall for his Celtic career after he was axed for the Old Firm clash against Rangers last weekend, Football Insider has learned.

The long-serving Hoops star has effectively slipped to third in the goalkeeping pecking order behind on-loan Fraser Forster and Scott Bain.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider the veteran feels the writing is on the wall for his career at the club after five trophy-fuelled years in which he has been integral to three consecutive trebles.

Gordon had a brief spell back in the number one shirt after Bain dislocated a finger but Neil Lennon's decision to sign Forster on loan from Southampton at the end of last month casts a major cloud over his career.

He subsequently decided to remain at Parkhead but his future is now up in the air, with his deal due to expire next June.

Forster kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 win at Ibrox last Sunday as he started his second spell at the club, and is set for an extended run in the starting XI.

Gordon has made 237 appearances in his five years at Celtic and was the first choice in goal for much of Brendan Rodgers' three seasons at the helm.
