Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has no intention of letting midfielder Scott Arfield leave this summer, Football Insider understands.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a return to the Premier League after an impressive debut campaign at Ibrox, with a £3million swoop from Southampton reportedly on the cards.

An Ibrox source has told Football Insider that manager Steven Gerrard regards Arfield as a key member of his side on and off the pitch and has made that clear to the board.

Arfield joined Rangers on a free transfer last summer when he agreed a four-year contract that, as revealed by Football Insider, made him the then top earning player in Scottish football.

He has been used in a variety of roles by Gerrard, including in central midfield, on the flanks and as a support striker, with his 43 appearances yielding 11 goals and seven assists.

Arfield scored a hat-trick in Rangers' 3-0 win over Motherwell earlier this month as he demonstrated the eye for goal displayed at former clubs Burnley, Huddersfield Town and Falkirk.
