Ipswich Town have mutually terminated Jon Nolan's contract to allow him to find a new club as a free agent, Football Insider understands.

The 29-year-old's deal was due to expire in the summer, but both parties have agreed to cancel the agreement early.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Nolan is back to full fitness after a frustrating time with injuries in the last 12 months and is weighing up his options as a free agent.

Nolan was yet to feature for Ipswich this season having worked his way back to fitness after a knee ligament injury suffered last March.

He played an hour in a friendly behind-closed-doors game on Saturday.

Nolan moved to Portman Road from Shrewsbury Town in August 2018.

The centre-midfielder made 70 appearances for the club across all competitions and scored 10 times.

His best season for the Blues came in the 2018-19 campaign, in which he scored three goals in 26 Championship appearances.

A product of Everton's academy, Nolan joined Stockport following his release from Goodison Park in July 2011.

Permanent moves to Lincoln City, Grimsby Town, Chesterfield and Shrewsbury would follow before a switch to Ipswich.

Nolan is now set to follow his former Shrewsbury teammate Toto Nsiala in leaving Kieran McKenna's side.

Nsiala joined Fleetwood Town earlier this month.

Ipswich are currently ninth in League One following a 1-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

The Blues welcome a struggling Gillingham side to Portman Road next Saturday.
