Kieran Maguire explains how Nottingham Forest can save '£80m' in points deduction case
Nottingham Forest would save £80million if they can delay a points deduction and survive relegation in the Premier League.
That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Forest would financially benefit from delaying the verdict of their breach.
Forest were charged with breaching the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules on Monday (15 January) after exceeding their allowable losses.
Football Insider revealed on 3 January that Forest were at risk of a points deduction due to their allowable losses being just £61million over three years.
The Athletic claims that Everton and Forest may not discover their punishment for their PSR breaches until after the end of the 2023/24 season.
Maguire believes that a delay to the verdict could end up saving Forest between £60million and £80million.
"Not being relegated for a Premier League team is worth somewhere in the region of £60-£80million in a single season," Maguire told Football Insider's Sean Fisher.
"Therefore, having the opportunity to delay any points deduction and getting an extra season in the Premier League is of significant financial benefit.
"On top of that is the opportunity to play in the most attractive league in Europe and arguably the world.
"Therefore, with Nottingham Forest now facing a charge of their own, delaying a judgement would benefit the club.
"It would also give them a little bit more time to get their defence in order."
