Giuseppe Bellusci is on the verge of quitting Leeds to join Empoli, according to a report.

The centre-back is thought to be seeking an end to his controversial career at Elland Road and weeks of talks between the Whites and the Italian club are close to bearing fruit.

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his website that the two clubs are close to agreeing a fee.

It is said that Leeds are holding out for £2million for their defender and that Empoli are now just £300,000 short of the asking price.

Bellusci made 31 appearances for Leeds in all competitions, but the 26-year-old's time in England has been often tarnished by poor form and off-field spats.

The Italian made his loan deal from Catania permanent in 2014 and has another two years to run on his current Leeds contract.

Leeds are hopeful that under new manager Garry Monk they can mount a push for the play-offs.
