Leeds United have agreed to terminate the contract of midfielder Connor Leak-Blunt only months after he signed a long-term deal, Football Insider has learned.

United announced in July that the rising star, 17, had signed a three-year professional contract with the club and pictured him putting pen to paper at their offices.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Leak-Blunt has reached an agreement with the club to end his deal more than two-and-a-half years early.

The shock move ends the teenager's nine-year association with United, which began when he joined their academy at the age of eight.

Leak-Blunt, whose father Jason was a United coach until 2017, had described penning professional terms with his boyhood team as a "great feeling".

But he has now moved on and is trying to secure a contract at a new club.

Leak-Blunt is currently on trial at Premier League club Sheffield United and appeared in the starting XI for their Under-23s against Wigan Athletic at the start of this week.

It is not uncommon for players and clubs to agree to terminate a contract when there are just a few months of it remaining, usually to free him up to secure a deal with a new club.

But it is highly unusual to do so when there is a long-term agreement in place at such a prestigious club.
