Liverpool 'would love to sign James Maddison' after Sky takeover update - pundit
Paul Robinson has suggested Liverpool will be able to compete with Man City and Chelsea in the transfer market regardless of who buys the club next.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England number one said whoever has the capital to buy the Reds will have the money to spend big on transfers.
Liverpool’s owners have put the club up for sale.
Sources told Football Insider last week (17 November) that Reds chief Mike Gordon is now focusing his energies on the potential sale of the club.
As reported by Sky Sports (18 November), FSG partner Sam Kennedy revealed there has been "a lot of interest" in Liverpool already.
When asked by Football Insider if manager Jurgen Klopp would be licking his lips at the prospect of new investment, Robinson said: “Klopp’s budget has not been anything like Man City’s, Chelsea’s or Man United’s.
"Yet, Klopp has still managed to compete at the highest level.
"There is an argument that they have fallen behind this year because of a lack of investment. They are lacking massively in midfield.
"There is players Klopp would love to bring in. I’m sure he’d love to sign [Declan] Rice, [Jude] Bellingham and [James] Maddison to name a few. They are the type of players Liverpool would be looking at.
"Their budget does not allow that though.
"The wind of change is blowing at Anfield though. Regardless of who the new owners are, the next custodian of that club will be very well off. As a business proposition, it is very attractive.”
