Liverpool have approached representatives of Moussa Sissoko with a view to a shock summer transfer, according to a report.

Now French publication Foot Mercato claim that Liverpool and Borrusia Dortmund have made concrete approaches for the attacking midfielder.

The asking price for Sissoko is a mammoth £20million, and that mega sum could prove a stumbling block for interested parties given that the France international has made little impact over the last year.

Jurgen Klopp has already made several additions to his squad this summer having already completed the signings of Sadio Mane, Loris Karius, Marko Grujic and Joel Matip.

Sissoko scored just one goal and notched eight assists for Newcastle in the 2015-16 season as his side finished 18th in the Premier League.

Given Liverpool's need for more goalscorers in the team, the pursuit of the France international after such a dismal 12 months has met with consternation from many Liverpool supporters.

Sissoko is contracted to the Toon until June 2019 but could be tempted by an immediate move back to the Premier League with Liverpool rather than fighting for promotion in the Championship next season.

He joined Newcastle from Toulouse in 2013 and his since made 132 appearances for the club, scoring 12 times.

According the report Tottenham are also rumoured to be entering the race for Sissoko imminently.

Tottenham have been involved in much transfer speculation, and are expected to sign Vincent Janssen this week.
