Mohamed Salah: £225m Liverpool bid revealed after 'encouragement' over world-record deal - sources
Al-Ittihad are plotting a sensational bid for Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah worth £225million before the Saudi Pro League window closes on Thursday, sources have told Football Insider.
The Saudi club had an initial bid of £100million - rising to £150million - turned down late last Thursday night (31 August).
Liverpool have insisted that Salah is not for sale and they have no intention of letting him go this week.
But Al-Ittihad have not ended their interest and they are believed to have had some encouragement from Salah's camp that he is willing to join.
Al-Ittihad are now preparing to submit a new bid of that, including add-ons, would be worth £225m in total, comfortably making it a world-record transfer fee if accepted.
Saudi Pro League clubs can make signings until 10pm UK time on Thursday.
Liverpool are now not able to bring in a replacement for their star man, who has nearly two more years left on his contract, until January.
Football Insider revealed on 1 September that the Reds considered Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane and tentatively explored a sensational move for him on deadline day, but it was too late to get done.
Salah remains under contract at Anfield until June 2025 after penning a three-year extension last summer (2022).
He earns a reported wage of £350,000-a-week on Merseyside and is Liverpool's best-paid player.
The Egypt international has already scored two goals and supplied two assists in Liverpool's four Premier League fixtures this season and remains the first choice of their five senior forwards.
He has racked up a remarkable 188 goals and 81 assists across 309 games in all competitions for Liverpool since joining from Roma in 2017.
