Mario Gotze is eager to join Liverpool in the summer, according to Bundesliga expert Jan Aage Fjortoft.

Gotze, 23, has fallen out of favour at Bayern Munich this season and is thought to be considering a move away in a bid to resurrect his career.

The German scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final and lifted the Bundesliga title twice with Borussia Dortmund under current Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp, but has found life increasingly difficult since moving to Bayern in 2013.

Gotze was named on the bench for the fifth time in six league games on Saturday as Bayern edged past FC Koln 1-0 and TV journalist and pundit Fjortoft tweeted after the game that the playmaker is ready to end his nightmare in Munich.

Klopp is said to be closely monitoring his former star's situation in Germany according to the BBC's Ben Smith.

Klopp was the first to introduce Gotze to the football world when he made him a regular in his Dortmund side in 2010/11 after giving him his debut in 2009.

The Liverpool manager is renowned for his rapport with his players and Fjortoft has singled out his special relationship with Gotze as the reason behind the player's desire to join Liverpool.

In the summer Gotze will be entering the last 12 months of his contract, which is believed to contain a £37million release clause.
