Man City have reached an agreement in principle on a mega-money Phil Foden contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The attacking midfielder, 22, is set to multiple his salary many times after finalising a deal worth around £250,000-a-week.

It will bring him closer in line with the best paid players at City, Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne.

It is believed Foden has agreed a six-year contract, meaning the deal will be worth around £78million in total.

An agreement has been in place for some time, but City have held back on making an announcement.

However, all parties are confident there are no issues and the deal will be formalised soon.

Foden has decided to commit the best years of his career to the club where he has developed into one of the world's elite young talents.

The Stockport-born sensation is not only a poster boy for City’s academy, but also one of the key players in Pep Guardiola's all-conquering team.

The manager's faith in Foden as well as his potential to develop further meant he was willing to allow Raheem Sterling to leave for Chelsea in the summer.

Foden has started all seven of City's Premier League matches this season and has made 10 appearances in all competitions, yielding three goals and two assists.

He has made 179 appearances in total for his boyhood club, with an impressive record of 48 goals and 35 assists.
