Mills: Celtic could be about to sign top-class Hart alternative after £35,000-a-week reveal

Ben Foster would be a "very, very good" signing for Celtic if they cannot complete a deal for Joe Hart, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and England defender claimed the Watford goalkeeper could thrive in Scotland for a couple of seasons.

Sky Sports reported two days before Celtic were interested in Foster, 38, as a potential alternative to Hart.

Asked whether Foster would be a good signing, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: "It depends on his fitness levels and his body.

"Only the people close to him will know that who see him in training day in, day out.

"He's clearly been a very, very good goalkeeper. It just depends on how good his body is. Diving around takes its toll. A lot of back and torso issues can happen to goalkeepers, that constant throwing yourself onto the ground.

"He's a very capable keeper so if he's fit enough and has no fitness issues him or Joe Hart could be good signings for a couple of seasons."

Hart has played 10 times for Spurs but has not featured in the Premier League since turning out for Burnley in December 2018.

Foster started last season as Watford's first-choice goalkeeper but failed to win back his place from Daniel Bachman after suffering an injury in January.
