Newcastle are eyeing a move for Huddersfield Town striker Nahki Wells, according to reports.

The Yorkshire Evening Post claim the 26-year-old would cost Newcastle £8million, and say the north-east giants are also interested in Sheffield Wednesday forward Fernando Forestieri.

Bermuda international Wells joined Huddersfield in 2013 from Bradford City, after he helped his former club reach the League Cup final that year.

At the Championship club, he has played 107 times in all competitions, scoring 40 times.

Wells has had a knee injury but played against Newcastle on Saturday, and he opened the scoring as Huddersfield beat the Toon giants 2-1 at St James Park.

Newcastle have already added £10million signing Dwight Gayle to his strike force and also has Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrović vying for a first-team forward spot.

The Toon giants are bidding for an instant return to the Premier League after being relegated last season, but have got off to an awful start.

They opened the Championship season with a 1-0 defeat to Fulham, before their misery was compounded by the defeat to Huddersfield last weekend.

They have an opportunity to turn their form around on Wednesday night when they welcome Reading to the North East.
