Newcastle United are still locked in talks with Matty and Sean Longstaff over new contracts despite the club shutting down most of its operations, Football Insider understands.

The Magpies have been in negotiations with the brothers, 20 and 22, for a number of months as they look to resolve the stalemates.

A Newcastle source has told Football Insider that the club are still persevering with negotiations during the UK-wide lockdown, although there has been little progress made.

Magpies manager Steve Bruce has made clear his desire to get deals done for the homegrown talents.

Matty's situation is the most pressing concern as his current deal expires this summer.

Newcastle would only receive receive a compensation fee for training costs if he moves clubs when he becomes a free agent.

Older brother Sean has a deal which runs until 2022 after putting pen to paper on new terms back in December 2018.

Matty made a dream start to life among the first team, scoring the winning goal against Manchester United on his debut back in October 2019.

He has gone on to play a total of 12 times for his boyhood club this season, scoring against Manchester United again in a 4-1 defeat at Old Trafford.

As reported by Sky Sports, Newcastle have placed the majority of their non-playing staff on furlough leave during the shutdown of the Premier League season, including the scouting and recruitment departments.
