Oliver Glasner to accept £5m-a-year Man United summer deal in 'amazing' appointment
Oliver Glasner has been named among the candidates to become the next permanent Manchester United manager.
It was confirmed last week Man United have sacked Ruben Amorim following a disagreement behind the scenes at Old Trafford.
Glasner emerged as an early favourite to land the Man United job following his work at Crystal Palace over the past two years.
The Austrian boss is out of contract at Selhurst Park on 30 June, meaning he would be available for free at the end of this season.
Michael Carrick is set to take over as Man United’s caretaker manager for the remainder of the campaign, having beaten Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to the position.
How Oliver Glasner's contract situation could impact Man United decision
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Glasner would be able to leverage his contract situation at Palace if any talks were to take place with Man United.
However, the Eagles’ recent run of form could put Old Trafford chiefs off from pursuing the 51-year-old after they have failed to win any of their past nine games.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “Well, his contract situation is a factor. You would think it's not the key factor.
“I think it's much more important they find the right person for them. We know that people and the way that players when they're free transfers to leverage that.
“We know that Glasner will be able to leverage the fact that he's going to be effectively a free agent when he does his signing on fees and everything else.”
How much would Glasner earn at Man United?
Borson insisted joining Man United would be an “amazing” move for Glasner if he does emerge as their favoured candidate.
“Obviously, Glasner would jump at the chance to go to Manchester United,” said Borson.
“I don't think there's any question about that. It'd be an amazing move for him, so I don't think the financial terms will be difficult to agree.
“They'll probably be at that sort of £5million mark salary-wise. The contract situation will be a small element. I don't think that's going to be the driver.”
Man United currently sit seventh in the Premier League table, while Palace have slipped to 13th following their recent dip in form.
Palace were also beaten by non-league side Macclesfield in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday (10 January).
