Pundit drops 'big' Liverpool claim after confirmed £31m transfer news
Reducing their wage bill will help Liverpool sign players this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton insisted that if the Reds can balance their books then they can offer targets bigger contracts which could encourage them to sign.
Firmino cost the club £9.4m annually in wages whilst Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain added £12.4m to the bill.
The departure of Jordan Henderson and reportedly imminent departure of Fabinho will cut the club's wages even further.
Hutton insisted Liverpool can benefit in multiple ways by lowering their wage bill.
"It is like any club, it does not matter who you are bringing in or letting go, you have to balance the books," he told Football Insider.
"If you feel that you need a rebuild or you just need one or two players, you need one to leave. You can't deal with huge numbers of players on a regular basis.
"Yes Liverpool did need a little bit of work. The players who have left will be on high wages as well, they will be big earners.
"That looks good because you can then go and buy a player and offer him a good contract which might tip the balance in Liverpool's favour to sign."
