Revealed: Rangers land £4.6m jackpot...& there's more cash heading to Ibrox
Rangers' participation in this season's Europa League has already earned them a guaranteed £4.6million bonanza, based on Uefa figures obtained by Football Insider.
The Scottish giants will net the sum from competing in Europe's secondary club competition this season regardless of how their final three group stage matches pan out.
Steven Gerrard's side are next in action tonight when they host Benfica at Ibrox and victory could secure a place in the knockout rounds for a second consecutive season.
Rangers are well placed to do so after winning two and drawing one of their opening three group stage matches to place them top of Group D at the halfway stage.
The impressive progress has been lucrative for the club in recent seasons and key to their increased revenues.
Uefa's Europa League distribution data shows that Rangers will earn £2.7m from their group stage allocation and £700,000 for progressing through the qualification rounds.
At the group halfway point, Rangers have also earned £1.2m from two wins and that 3-3 draw against Benfica.
It means they will bank £4.6m from participation and results even before top-ups are taken into account.
The Light Blues will not benefit from gate receipts at Ibrox as the pandemic continues to bit but there are commercial and merchandise spin-offs from those games.
The £4.6m figure will be further topped up by the Scottish clubs' share of the TV pool, the sum of which is yet to be confirmed, as well as through Rangers' Uefa co-efficient ranking.
Rangers' most recently-published financial results demonstrated the competition's value, with the Europa League bringing in £20.7million.
For the year ending 30 June 2020, Rangers confirmed that revenue had increased from the previous year to £59million but they posted a loss of £15.9m, an increase of £4.3m on last year's numbers.
