Report reveals Staveley position in Newcastle takeover talks - makes £40m transfer claim

Amanda Staveley remains hopeful that she can pull off a deal to takeover Newcastle United as she readies to provide £40million worth of backing in the January transfer window, according to a report.

The Mirror claim on their website that the British businesswoman, who is fronting an approach from PCP Capital Partners, is feeling positive that an agreement with current owner Mike Ashley can be reached after seeing an initial offer turned down, although both parties are frustrated that the approach quickly became public knowledge.

It has been claimed that she has seen a £300million bid turned down by the Sports Direct supremo, who was unwilling to agree to a performance-based deal which would have seen certain clauses have to be achieved in order for him to receive the full sum.

However, with negotiations ongoing, the report states that those financially backing the PCP bid have more than enough funds to see a deal come to fruition, and would provide manager Rafael Benitez with a £40million transfer kitty for him to spend during the January transfer window.

If a takeover was unable to happen, then it is claimed that current owner Ashley would only be willing to back the Spanish boss with just half of that amount, having refused to break the bank during the summer transfer window.
