Tottenham must beat Liverpool and Chelsea to the signature of Werder Bremen attacker Max Kruse if they are to push themselves towards Premier League glory.

German newspaper Bild claim both Liverpool and Chelsea are keen on the 29-year-old star, who has been in sensational form for the Bundesliga club.

It is said that a fee of around £16million will be enough to prise the Germany international away from his home country and chance his arm in the Premier League.

Spurs are yet to complete a summer signing under manager Mauricio Pochettino but are expected to add to their squad as they look to go one better and lift the Premier League trophy.

Football Insider examines just how the former Wolfsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach attacker would be the perfect addition at the Wembley Stadium this summer.

Here are three reasons why, including the future of a number of Spurs attackers that could be decided in the next six weeks:

Form last season

Kruse has been in exceptional form of late, as he begins to hit the peak of his footballing career towards his late twenties.

Scoring 15 goals last season, Kruse also laid on a further seven assists for his side as they finished in a decent eighth place in Germany's top flight.

If he is able to replicate that at Tottenham and fight for a place alongside the like of Son Heung-Min, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli, then he could be the missing ingredient needed to win the Premier League.

Double blow for rivals

Signing Kruse would obviously come as a huge boost to Spurs as they look to beat off the likes of Chelsea, Man City and any other title contenders come May 2018.

They will also be looking to improve on their disappointing campaign in the Champions League and signing a player like Kruse will do that.

However, they will gain twice an advantage with Kruse's signature as it would see both Chelsea and Liverpool miss out, who will be forced to watch him shine in different colours.

Multiple attacking exits possible

Multiple players could be offloaded by Spurs this summer, with a number of attackers disappointing in the white of Tottenham's strip in recent years.

The likes of Clinton N'Jie, Georges N'Koudou and Josh Onomah are all surplus to requirements in north London, and that means Pochettino will want to add to his attacking options.

Bringing Kruse to Spurs would be a huge improvement on all three, and could rival the likes of Eriksen and Heung-Min for a place in the starting eleven.
