Erik Lamela is fighting for his future at Tottenham ahead of what is set to be a major overhaul this summer, Football Insider understands.

The long-serving Argentine, who moved to north London in 2013 for a then-club record fee of £30million, signed a new contract last year that runs until 2022.

But a club source has told Football Insider that does not protect Lamela from the axe as Mauricio Pochettino looks to freshen up a squad he believes has grown stale following consecutive fallow windows.

Pochettino has not yet made the decision to listen to offers for his 27-year-old countryman but needs convincing that the player has a key role beyond this campaign.

There are major doubts as to whether Lamela's body can withstand the rigours of playing twice a week for an established Champions League club after undergoing double hip surgery two years ago.

Lamela became this season impressively with six goals by early November but his form has subsequently tailed off and 18 of his 31 appearances this campaign have come as a substitute.
