Revealed: Bielsa set for Leeds contract extension
Marcelo Bielsa is set to sign an extension to his Leeds United contract to keep him at the club until the end of the season.
The Argentine's current deal is due to expire at the end of next month but there are no fears at Elland Road he won't see out the extended Championship campaign.
A Leeds source has told Football Insider the board expect to come to an arrangement with Bielsa to extend his contract by one or two months.
The 64-year-old arrived at Elland Road in the summer of 2018, when he signed a one-year deal that included an additional 12-month option.
Leeds triggered the one-year extension at the end of May of last year and that expires next month.
But the extraordinary circumstances of this season, which has seen the Championship campaign suspended by at least three months, mean Bielsa will stay on to see it out.
This comes after the Premier League announced last week that clubs had agreed all players out-of-contract on 30 June can sign an extension up until 23 June.
The Championship is expected to follow suit with a similar arrangement.
Bielsa's future beyond this season is almost certain to depend upon the outcome of Leeds' promotion pursuit.
The Championship leaders are seven points clear of third place with nine matches of the campaign remaining and well placed to go up automatically.
Since joining Leeds, Bielsa has taken charge of 91 games, winning 49 of them at an average of 1.79 points per game.
Of the Whites' 40 matches in all competitions this season, they have won 22, drawn eight and lost 10.
