Jurgen Klopp has blocked the January exit of Dejan Lovren from Liverpool after making a U-turn, Football Insider understands.

The Merseyside giants listened to offers for the Croatia international, 30, in the summer and were willing to sell if a club met their £20million asking price.

There was interest from the likes of Roma in Italy but a deal could not be agreed at the price Liverpool wanted and they rejected the possibility of a loan move.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that Klopp is not willing to lose Lovren in the forthcoming window after he won back his place in the starting XI in recent weeks.

The manager has made it clear the centre-back is not for sale and that any discussion on his future is on hold until the end of the season.

Lovren has resurrected his Anfield career after dropping to fourth choice centre-back last season and at the start of this campaign.

But an injury to Joel Matip - the first choice partner for main man Virgil van Dijk - and a downturn in Joe Gomez's form has opened the door for the battle-hardened Croatian and he has seized it.

Lovren has started three of the last four Premier League matches and is set to be named in the starting XI for tomorrow's mouthwatering showdown against Manchester City at Anfield.

He is now set to extend his spell at the club to six years, making 175 appearances in total since signing from Southampton.
