Tottenham have terminated the contract of teenage Belgian defender Joy Mukena, Football Insider can reveal.

New documents registered with the Football Association show that the centre-back, 18, had his contract cancelled by mutual consent on 31 March.

There has been no announcement from Tottenham about Mukena leaving, but the player no longer has a profile on the official Spurs website.

Paperwork on the official FA website shows that the youngster's contract freed him to end his association with Tottenham at the end of last month.

Belgium-born Mukena joined the Spurs academy full-time in the summer of 2015 on a two-year scholarship contract.

It was due to expire at the end of this season but the defender and the club took the decision to terminate it three months early.

This is likely to enable the teenager, who has been used primarily as a central defender by the Tottenham Under-18s, to find another club.

Mukena has not announced the news on his personal Twitter account although he did take to the social media micro-blogging site last Friday to express his gratitude to former Spurs Under-23s coach Ugo Ehiogu following his death last Friday.
