West Ham chiefs have talked about offering Jack Wilshere a pay-off to leave, Football Insider can reveal.

The England international, 28, has made little impact at the London Stadium since signing as a big-name free transfer in the summer of 2018.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider that the club are now ready to explore more drastic measures to get Wilshere off their wage bill.

This includes offering a mutual termination of his contract, which has 15 months remaining and is worth around £100,000-a-week.

This possibility would see the former Arsenal man secure a handsome pay-off to leave but one which falls short of the £6m-plus remaining on his deal.

There is growing acceptance at West Ham that Wilshere's body can't cope with the demands of Premier League football.

He has made just 16 appearances in two seasons and has been sidelined due to injury since mid-October.

Wilshere underwent hernia surgery a month ago, as first revealed by Football Insider, and is facing a battle to play again this season.

The latest in a series of devastating injuries for the 34-times England international scuppered West Ham hopes of offloading him in the January transfer window.

There is a strong likelihood he will leave in the summer if he can find a club willing to pay his wages, although that remains a major hurdle for the Londoners hierarchy to overcome.
