Rangers are close to a cut-price deal for defending colossus martin Skrtel, according to an Insider.

The Four Lads Had a Dream blog, a solid source of Rangers news, said that the 6ft 3 enforcer is close to moving to Ibrox from Fenerbahce in a £2.7m move.

That comes after the Daily Record claimed that he was the subject of a £4m bid from Rangers, with the decision on the move being left to Skrtel himself.

The former Liverpool centre-back has just 12 months left on his Fenerbahce contract.

Writing on the Four Lads blog it was said: "Yes Martin Skrtel, who looks close to a £2.7m Rangers move, is also 34 this year. I get the trepidation but the answer is clear, Gerrard is buying for now and is buying a winning attitude.

"Rangers don’t have time to wait, there will be a mixture of experience and youthful desire in the squad.

"Our squad has lacked the hunger and mental strength, character, desire that guys like Skrtel and McGregor have in abundance. Do you think these guys will be happy with drawing up at Pittodrie? No and they certainly won’t be ‘shhhhhhhh’ the fans up at Firhill on a cold Wednesday night either."
