Sources: Aston Villa looking for exit route in £4m+ deal
Aston Villa are considering cutting ties with kit manufacturer Castore, Football Insider can reveal.
The Premier League side signed a multi-year agreement with the UK-based sports company in May 2022 to become the kit manufacturer for the men, women and youth sides.
However, Villa’s men's and women's sides have complained about the quality of Castore’s kit for the 2023/24 season with the design supposedly weighing players down.
As reported by The Guardian, Villa have demanded that Castore produce and deliver a new kit following the complaints.
Football Insider understands that Castore’s agreement with Aston Villa is worth around £4million per season to the club.
However, Villa are prepared to look elsewhere for a kit manufacturer deal, with many members of their commercial team believing they could extract better value elsewhere.
Villa’s previous deal with Kappa was worth £3million per season over a three-year period.
Castore have previously faced complaints from Rangers and Newcastle United regarding the quality of kits.
Following complaints from Rangers fans, Castore ended up publishing an apology to supporters of the Glasgow giants.
Newcastle fans also lodged complaints over the manufacturer’s ability to keep up with demand, while others complained about poor quality.
Newcastle ended up cutting ties with Castore with the Tyneside club instead partnering with Adidas in a deal worth an estimated £25-30million per season.
Villa are now prepared to follow in Newcastle’s footsteps and are weighing up other options for a kit manufacturer deal from 2024/25 onwards.
