Bolton Wanderers are in talks with veteran defender Alex Baptiste over a new deal, Football Insider can reveal.

Baptiste's current contract expires next month after he only signed a one-year deal on his arrival.

A source has told Football Insider Bolton boss Ian Evatt is keen to have his former Blackpool teammate around for next season after he helped them win promotion back to League One.

The 35-year-old re-joined Bolton for a second spell last August and he played 40 times in League Two as they secured automatic promotion.

His first spell at the club was during the 2013/14 campaign when he helped them to a 14th place finish in the Championship.

Baptiste recently told the Bolton News he felt he was "thrown under his bus" during his first spell where he played out of position at right-back but is much happier now.

He added: "I won’t be playing in five years because of my age but while I am I’d like to play a little part in getting Bolton back to where they should be."

The ex-QPR defender now has 85 Bolton appearances under his belt and he has scored four times for the Trotters.

Bolton Wanderers secured automatic promotion on the final day of the season with a 4-1 win over Crawley Town.

They have more than 10 players whose contract expire next month, including Baptiste, with fellow defender Gethin Jones' deal recently extended.
