Borussia Dortmund are in talks with Newcastle United target Ivan Fresneda over a summer move, sources have told Football Insider.

The German giants have made contact with the 18-year-old's representatives and it is understood that they are willing to match Real Valladolid's £20million price tag to sign the right-back.

Fresneda has been a long-term target for Newcastle, and the Tyneside club planned to reignite their interest in him this summer after failing to sign him in January.

Champions League qualification now looks likely for the Magpies, who sit third in the Premier League table with five games remaining.

But Newcastle now find themselves trailing in the race to sign Fresneda, and they are aware that they will need to move quickly if they plan to hijack Dortmund's deal for the youngster.

Fresneda has enjoyed a breakthrough season in Spain, making his La Liga debut in September 2022 and growing to become a key player for Paulo Pezzolano's side.

He has made 21 appearances for Real Valladolid this season, including 16 league starts, and played a total of 1,614 minutes of football for the first team.

Fresneda has shown his versatility for the La Liga side, playing at both right-back and centre-back this season.

Despite Fresneda's impressive debut season, Valladolid find themselves battling relegation this season - it is understood that demotion would accelerate the Spaniard's exit this summer.
