Brentford have joined Leicester City and German club Hoffenheim in the race to sign Tottenham starlet Elliot Thorpe, Football Insider can reveal.

The 20-year-old is set to quit Spurs when his contract expires next month.

A source has told Football Insider Thorpe has rejected a recent offer of a new contract from Tottenham and is keen to join a club where there is a clear first-team pathway.

Championship play-off finalists Brentford are now presenting their case to Thorpe in an attempt to beat Leicester and Hoffenheim to his signature.

Thorpe is yet to make his senior bow for Spurs but trained regularly with the first team under Jose Mourinho.

He had been coached by interim boss Ryan Mason during his time with the youth team.

The former Wales Under-19 international caught the eye when playing for Spurs' Under-23s side and scored twice in a 5-2 win over Liverpool last month.

Brentford's 'B' team structure would offer a unique opportunity for Thorpe.

The Brentford academy was closed in 2016 and replaced with the B team who play friendly fixtures against Under-21 and Under-23 teams.

Former B team player Marcus Forss scored the goal that took Brentford to the play-off final last weekend.

Meanwhile, six B team players made their first-team debuts during the campaign.
