Brentford have had a £26million bid for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk rejected, sources have told Football Insider.

The Londoners have made a formal move for the Ukraine international after holding talks over a last-gasp deal.

But Donetsk have knocked back the interest from Brentford and their star player is now set to stay beyond this summer.

The 21-year-old winger scored two goals and assisted nine in 19 appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk last season.

He has only made 28 senior appearances for the side after only establishing himself as a key player in the second half of last season.

Mudryk spent the 2018-19 and 2020-21 seasons on loan at Arsenal Kyiv and Desna Chernihiv respectively.

He is primarily a left-winger but can also play on the right-hand side of the attack as well as through the middle.

Mudryk has featured more prominently on the left when playing for Donestk but he has also dropped into the number 10 role on occasion.

He also has five Ukraine caps to his name after making his international debut in May.

Brentford have made five signings this summer with Ben Mee and Thomas Strakosha arriving on free transfers.

Aaron Hickey, Mikkel Damsgaard and Keane Lewis-Potter have also arrived at the Brentford Community Stadium.

The Bees are next in action against Leeds United on Saturday (3 September) as they look to continue their positive start to the season.
