Craig Gordon may see out his Celtic contract and then retire at the end of the season, Football Insider understands.

The goalkeeper, 36, has been considering his future at Parkhead after plummeting to third in the club's pecking order behind Scott Bain and on-loan Fraser Forster, who is the current first choice.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the veteran may spurn the chance to look for a new club in the January window, or when his current deal ends next summer.

Gordon is now ready to give serious consideration to hanging up his boots at the end of the season and calling time on a glittering career.

He turns 37 at the end of next month and has been so troubled by knee problems in the past that he was without a club for two years in his early 30s.

Gordon reignited his his career at Celtic and has been an integral member of the side that has dominated Scottish football over the last half decade.

He has won five league trophies as well as four Scottish Cups and four Scottish League Cups.

Gordon lost the number one shirt this time last year to Bain and has made only five appearances this season, when the 27-year-old dislocated his finger.

Neil Lennon has been at pains to keep Gordon on board but Celtic announced a fortnight ago that Bain had signed a new four-year contract that will run until the summer of 2023.

Gordon has made 237 appearances in his five years at Parkhead and was the first choice in goal for much of Brendan Rodgers' three seasons at the helm.
