Everton are in talks to sign Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres ahead of the transfer cut-off, sources have told Football Insider.

The Merseysiders are in the market for two attacking signings in the final days of the window after agreeing to sell Anthony Gordon to Newcastle United.

Everton scouts watched Gyokeres in action once again for Coventry on Saturday as his team secured a 2-0 win against Huddersfield Town in the Championship.

The Swedish striker set up both of his team's goals to lift his assists tally this season to four, which have been supplemented by 12 Championship goals from 28 matches in the competition.

Gordon completed a move worth £40million plus £5m of add-ons to Newcastle on Sunday and it is expected that around half of that cash will be ploughed straight into signing reinforcements.

Everton believe around £15m could be enough to prise Gyokeres from Coventry and they are in discussions over the fee with the Championship side, with a formal bid lined up.

The relegation-threatened Premier League club are now working round-the-clock to bring in two forwards capable of slotting straight into the team.

They want an orthodox centre-forward who can spearhead the attack as well as a pacy wide player.

Adams was on Everton's radar during the last summer window but Southampton were not willing to sell.

However, the Saints could change their stance in the coming days if they are successful in landing Stade Rennais forward Kamaldeen Sulemana.
